Joining Actions

Joining actions is an outreach format, an expansion of Touching Margins. Its firt iteration took the shape of a residency which brought together several artists and citizens of Chemnitz, curious about the topic of (dance) archives in a process of collaborative exploration. During the residency, the two dance artists Nitsan Margaliot and Sasha Portyannikova, together with dramaturge Anna Chwialkowska, worked alongside playwright Natasha Borenko and filmmaker Michelle Ettlin to investigate how their previous research on marginalized dance archives could be applied in a new context and territory through interactive activities with local citizens.

Together, we explored personal memories associated with dance, we realized how significant these experiences can be, and how they may have occurred in unexpected situations. The format sparked deep and intimate memory work, prompting us to recall places and communities from the past that may no longer exist. They also reflected on personal transformations and feelings of longing for faded places and times. Together, we explored various ways of telling, writing, and moving personal stories, aiming to rewrite individual pasts and assemble them into a performative collage.

The residency took place as part of the residenzförderung by Fonds Darstellende Künste in cooperation with flausen+ at Off-Bühne KOMPLEX Chemnitz.
